Excerpt
"Three weeks after beginning this protocol and one week after what I consider my last real migraine, the average rainy Portland day quickly progressed to a rare thunderstorm. The cracks and flashes of the storm shook the house and reverberated threateningly, and, to my shock, I didn't feel a headache, much less a migraine, coming on. I waited for it to start, and it didn't.
I stepped out onto our front porch, sat down on the stoop, and let the vibrations of the thunder pummel me. The fierce claps of the thunder, which would have torn through my brain just three weeks prior, seemed beautiful, powerful, and not at all painful. And I wept with joy. I walked out into the rain, sat down in my driveway, and let the rain drench me as my tears fell in relief that it was over."

For anyone that has experienced the despair of finding a way to end migraines, this book may be a huge help. SRM has packed a wealth of insight and research into this very short, totally readable book. I really appreciated her description of the processes and thinking that informed her decisions - they reflected a blend of the scientific method and intuition that bolstered my confidence (I am a research chemist by training) in the outcomes. Her notes at the end provide a wealth of additional information for those who are inclined to explore further. While I had never considered the possibility that mold was a factor in my migraines, I am applying some of the recommendations in the book...and, yes, raw garlic HURTS, but it definitely opens the sinuses. Thank you, Sara, for sharing your experiences and the fruits of your research. I look forward to the print edition so I can share with others.Product details

Migraine Finding My Own Way Out edition by Sara Riley Mattson Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
I'm so glad I read this book! Overall, I found it compelling, informative & concise.
The writing style is enjoyable, relaxed, and engaging. The content is informative and interesting.
It's for migraneurs AND for those who can use a little inspiration as they pursue their own holistic health & wellness journey. There's so much good stuff in here!
I love and appreciate that she hit the highlights in the main text, and then added more detailed and technical descriptions in the appendices. I loved those too -- I didn't skip a word.
In this book, I found eye-opening and thought-provoking facts, ideas and insights, and wise advice -- plus inspiration and hope.
I love that Sara shared her story but also emphasized following one's own instincts. As any migrainer knows very well, there is no one size fits all approach or solution.
Thank you for sharing your story, Sara!
I read this book during a time when I was just discovering that mold/candida was the root of my physical ailments, including frequent migraines. It was healing to not feel so alone in Riley's story of her journey into finding relief and answers. Of the many books I have read on the subject, I found most similarities to my own experiences in this one.
The author is incredibly articulate as she guides the reader through her journey of medical and spiritual discovery. Her descriptions are familiar and evocative for anyone who has shared similar trials. She compellingly portrays the variety of flavors and textures of the often spiraling layers of pain familiar to migraine sufferers. And she outlines the investigative approach and eventual solution that allowed her to overcome her migraines. While not giving away her core revelation, I will say the process she offers in the text can work for others even if the solution turns out to be different. Clearly, having the ongoing will to survive, to continue to Sherlock through all the clues, and having a strong bulwark of supportive relationships is also key to overcoming migraines.
I saw this quote and thought of Sara Riley Mattson. Her second beautiful book "Migraine" is an amazing work that gives hope and inspiration to those in chronic pain. Sara's smarts and down to earth writing style weave a compelling story of healing and renewal. This book is a memoir but it is written like a who-done-it mystery. Sherlock Holmes would cheer her intellect, investigation skills, research, challenging conventional wisdom, and finally nailing the upstairs butler. This book is for "seekers of knowledge" who enjoy a good read.
Finally, the answer to my cronic migraines. After 36 years of treatments, medicines, procedures that did not help, this book unlocked the key to the source of my migraines. Thank you so much for shating this story and helpful solutions.
This book was a great and easy read, and a compelling story. Sara shares her fight to overcome her own pit of despair and desperation a seemingly endless migraine that kept her secluded in a dark and quiet place for weeks on end. Even though my migraine days are long over, I appreciated the gift of accompanying Sara on her journey. Her persistent tenacity as she struggled to find a way out led to spectacular success, and in the doing left so much useful information relevant to understanding and approaching recovery from other health conditions that I will return to this resource again and again. Thank you, Sara! Another job well done!!
This book is concise, well written and easy to read. I love the way Sara takes responsibility for her health and figures out her solution using research, intuition and logic. I don't have migraines, thankfully. After reading Camp Like A Girl, I wanted to gain more wisdom from this courageous woman! I do have other chronic inflammatory conditions that I am addressing now. I will be implementing Sara's practices as an experiment. I figure I have nothing to lose and the potential for less pain and suffering. My intuition tells me I found the right book
