'Life as a Puzzle' is the autobiography of a black Royal poodle. The story is written in the manner of a political and philosophical tale. Self-knowledge is set out here as a pursuit of a hidden treasure and as the joy of solving a riddle. The rehabilitation of intelligence, the refusal of any abuse, the respect for animals, the motivation to act, the duty to warn against collective crimes, are also values that will be discovered, in the course of the narrator's chaotic life. The plot mainly takes place between Paris - Ile Saint Louis-, and Engadin, in Switzerland. It is a love story, as intense as it is improbable, although it has more than a grain of truth. The protagonists are human beings and dogs, mainly Astral Black of Astrakhan and Alpen-White, a giant white Swiss shepherd.
It is not so rare to make animals speak so that they may edify us. We might think of Kipling, Wells, or the french author Colette.
Here, the tone is sometimes grave; often, merry; always, optimistic. And the suspense is kept up to the last line.

Here is a tale for curious children of all ages (I myself am a curious child of 32 years…).
The heroine of Life as a Puzzle is a royal poodle named Astral-Black. Instead of being a cuddly sidekick or simply a human in disguise, she is quite simply a person. She struck this reader as the most endearing and human of characters elegant, articulate, intelligent, bashful; though also forgetful and sometimes given to illusion. Her past is mysterious and perhaps even shady. The life that she has forgotten is stranger and more fantastic than any work of art or fancy. “Life has more imagination than the imagination,” Astral-Black tells us, while she struggles to reassemble the pieces of her very improbable past. The last puzzle-piece, the hardest to fit, is the mystery of how on earth she could have forgotten a life that has been so unforgettable. As she completes this great puzzle, she finds herself more truly and more strange.
